Tigers WIN!! 14-4 Ten Run Rule!
Starting Pitcher- Michael Thompson, Reliever Kyle Ross.
Temp- 58 degree. Sunny!
Great way to get our first win of the season. Mike Thompson pitch a very strong 3 plus innings only giving up 3 hits and striking out three. All phases of the game showed much improvement since the first day. 13 hits helped create a large lead and the Tigers came away with a big first win!
The Second inning was a hit fest- Six singles and a double opened up a 7 run lead. Curtis Clark lead off the inning with a single to left field and Chris Lenear followed up with nice hit to the right side, Jordan Patterson took a walk and singles by C.G. Facer and Kyle Ross plated 5 runs. Salman Khan continued the hit parade with deep double to left field that scored two more. Brian Summers hit a sharp single to continue the scoring. Clark single for a second time in the inning bringing the scoring barrage to 7 runs. 12 batters got to see pitches and everyone hit the ball somewhere. Great things happen when we put the ball into play.
Defensively we looked much better. Myles Kelley started off the game with two nice catches in center field. Mike Thompson held Lanphier to two runs.
In the fourth inning Chris Lenear made a great double play; catching a line drive and then doubling off the runner on first base.
Kyle Ross came in to relieve and did a solid job with some spotty defense behind him- Catching a VERY sharp line-drive that took him off his feet. Kyle tried to force out the runner on second base, making a nice throw from his backside, but the runner got his hand back on the base just in time!
Coaches Comments- It's great to get that first win. The way we hit the ball makes me very encouraged for the season ahead. Though, we do have quite a lot to work on. With four errors in the field we let Lanphier creep back into the game briefly. But those things should be cured with a little more experience. We really need to work on our cut-off throws and staying focused when the game is still in the balance. I'm happy that everyone got to play at least an inning in the field and each got at least one at bat.
Special Note: Coach Waller has canceled varsity practice for Wednesday. So that gives the JV a chance to use the home park for practice- (Very rare for us in the season!) The Thursday game vs. Schlarman has been canceled due to the Easter holiday- (they don't play on holy Thursday) Practice will be at the high school from 3:45-5:45. Friday is a day off school so we will practice from 10-12 at the home park that day as well!

Game One: @ Kankakee
For our first games of the 2010 season, we traveled on the last Saturday of spring break, My and Myles Birthday! March 27th to face the Kankakee.
Temp: 45- High Winds- Kanakee's field is in a wide open space with no trees- so the wind was blowing out to left and kept the field pretty cold.
We learned a lot about ourselves in this first outing. One being I need to teach the players to keep better stats, Something we will work on this week! (so this recap is by memory- it will be better next game!)
Game One- Freshman Brian Summers- pitched the first 4 2/3rd's innings doing very well for his first time out. Only two walks and 4 strike outs. Brian gave up 4 hits and had a total of 72 pitches.
We kept the score close in the early-Scoring on a passed ball and fielders choice in the early innings, and giving up 4 runs through 4 innings. Sophomore Salman Khan came in to relieve the final 2 1/3 innings.
The Kays hit the ball pretty well and we had a few errors in the 4th inning.
final Score 8-3.
Highlight- Myles Kelley- Leaping Catch in Center Field.
Game Two- Freshman Myles Kelley- Starting pitcher- 2 2/3rd's innings- Myles kept battling- getting the second strike to a number of batters, before giving up hits late in the count. Gotta give credit to the Kay's for hitting the ball hard to open spots. Freshman C.G. Facer came in to relieve- striking out the final batter in each of the next 3 innings.
Final Score: 13-3
Highlights- Michael Thompson went 2 for 3 with 2 singles- and Kyle Ross had a Great diving catch in center field. Salman Khan and Curtis Clark played solid defense at short stop and third base respectively.
Coaches Comments: We need to cut down on some of the errors and lapses in concentration in the field. We are a young team and as our first games it was a good test as to what High School Baseball is all about. I saw some great things from this young team and know there are plenty of things we need to work on, we have lots of games to prove ourselves. Please post some highlights that you remember from the game!
Special thanks to parents for making the long drive, bringing food and cheering on our Tigers in the Cold and Wind! Game 3 in on Tuesday @ Home!
